critical resilience
Critical Resilience As 2020 has forcefully shown, we must learn new ways to live, to develop new ways of being in the world that actively refuse capitalist systems of exploitation and oppression, whether they be racial, gendered, economic, environmental, religious, etc. First and foremost, Insurgent Ecologies seeks to develop, build, and share knowledge around how we can collectively construct what we call critical resilience: practical and on-the-ground action that produces justice-based solutions. To this end, Insurgent Ecologies offers educational workshops in three broad areas: ● Urban and suburban gardening (growing food, soil regeneration, water catchment systems, composting, etc.) ● Race and Food Justice ● Self-Defense and Survival Strategies We know resilience is not enough. It is not enough to simply “be strong” in the face of injustice. Instead, we seek to build forms of resilience based upon the collective action, support, and cooperation of those seeking to dismantle injustice. Our workshops draw upon the teachings and legacies of the Black radical tradition, indigenous sovereignty movements, liberation theology, and Third World people’s struggles worldwide. We strive to demonstrate how to put these legacies in action and create the infrastructures needed to build a new world.
